The 5 Best Modular Motorcycle Helmets [2024 Edition]

AGV Sportmodular Carbon Solid Helmet

Full-face motorcycles are the safest out there, but a lot of people like the idea of a helmet that allows them to feel the wind on their face from time to time. That’s where modular helmets come in. Modulars are the best of both worlds when it comes to full-face helmets versus open face helmets.

Personally, I love modular helmets because they allow me to open the lid and see what I’m doing if I stop for gas. It’s easy to see to reach into pockets and get out your wallet, put on gloves, or whatever you want or need to do. Modulars are also great if you’re riding and need some air or if you’re riding and get an itch on your chin or nose. They’re just very convenient.

While there are hundreds of modular helmets out there for sale, not all of them will keep you comfortable and safe. Below, I’ve pulled together the five best modular helmets, so without any more idle chat, let’s dive in.

Schuberth C4 Pro Helmet

Schuberth C4 Pro Helmet

The Schuberth C4 Pro helmet is one that people absolutely adore. It’s one of the quieter designs on the market thanks to a sleek shell, and it’s very comfortable, too. The interior is well-made, removable and washable and feels good on your skin. There’s a drop-down inner sun shield, and the helmet comes with a microphone and speakers already installed.

The outer shell is a Direct Fiber Processing fiberglass affair that’s designed to be stable at basically any speed and there’s an integrated spoiler. One downside with this helmet is that the shell only comes in two sizes, so you can get a bit of a bobblehead look depending on your head size.

The EPS foam in this helmet is a sectional design, meaning it’s made up of multiple parts. The EPS is also multi-density, which helps provide more protection. Last but not least, the vents on this helmet work well and cut down on fogging inside the lid.

Shoei Neotec 2 Helmet

Shoei Neotec 2 helmet

The Shoei Neotec 2 helmet is another helmet that’s a cut above 99 percent of what’s out there on the market. This helmet is the Cadillac of the modular designs. There’s simply a lot to it. The helmet features an integrated sun visor, superior chin-bar latching mechanism, extremely comfortable removable interior liner, Pinlock visor, great ventilation, noise isolator cheek pads, chin curtain, breath guard, and a ratcheting chin strap.

The helmet’s shell offers a five-ply matrix construction and comes in four different sizes. This helps keep the helmet smaller on your head and eliminates the bobblehead look common on some modular helmets. The shell is aerodynamic and won’t catch the wind unexpectedly.

As for the EPS, the inner liner is a dual-layer design and is designed in multiple pieces to absorb impacts better than many other EPS liners on the market. The main downside to this helmet is the fact that the paint finish could be a little bit better and the fact that it’s quite expensive.

AGV Sportmodular Carbon Solid Helmet

AGV makes some high-quality lids, and the Sportmodular is no exception. This helmet is a pricey one, but it is pretty great. It’s one of the lightest-weight helmets on the market. The carbon fiber shell is what makes it such a special item. The shell is available in three sizes, which is good.

The helmet lacks some of the high-quality communications systems and features found on other lids, but it does have an inner sun visor and good ventilation. The helmet comes with a top-notch EPS liner, too. The liner features a five-density construction and is available in four sizes.

The helmet also features a carbon fiber chin bar, an integrated ventilation system that really moves some air, an adjustable integrated spoiler, Shalimar and Nabuk neck roll, Ritmo fabric cheek pads, a Pinlock visor, and a metal latching system for the flip-up chin bar.

Nexx X-Vilitur Helmet

NEXX X.Vilitur Helmet

The NEXX X.Vilitur Helmet is NEXX’s first foray into the modular helmet space. It is a good one, too. The helmet features some really great features, including a drop-down sun visor, removable chin curtain, and an adjustable breath guard.

The shell of the helmet is what NEXX calls the X-MATRIX. This is a special mixture of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and aramid. This shell comes in three different sizes to minimize the bobblehead effect.

In addition to this unique shell, the helmet also gets two large intake vents and two exhaust vents to help keep you cool. There’s also an integrated neck roll, a removable and moisture-wicking interior, a metal locking chin bar, and extra seals around the face shield and chin bar.

Scorpion EXO-AT950 Helmet

Scorpion EXO-AT950 Helmet

Of all the helmets on this list, the Scorpion EXO-AT950 is the helmet that is the absolute best value. The helmet is an adventure or dual sport helmet that has some features that you routinely find on high-end motorcycle helmets. What makes the Scorpion EXO-AT950 special is that its price is well under $300.

The shell is a polycarbonate construction and an aerodynamic shape. The shell comes in three sizes to minimize the bobblehead effect. The peak on the helmet is removable, and so is the face shield. This makes the helmet extremely versatile. You can wear it as a typical street modular with no peak, a modular with the peak, or a modular with no face shield and goggles. It’s a clever lid, and one you should certainly consider.

The helmet has plenty of great features including an inner sun visor, several vents for airflow, a removable and washable moisture-wicking anti-microbial interior liner, speaker pockets, and a single-lever release for the chin bar.
